GYF Commends MP Solomon Kuyon for Championing National Youth Development Fund Proposal
The Ghana Youth Federation (GYF) has commended Hon. Solomon Kuyon, Member of Parliament for Krachi Nchumuru and a Vice Chairperson Parliamentary Committee on Youth and Sports, for raising the urgent need to establish a National Youth Development Fund in Ghana.
In a brief intervention in support of the proposal, the Federation noted that the call reflects a growing national consensus that Ghana must transition from fragmented youth initiatives toward a structured and sustainable financing frameworkcapable of supporting youth entrepreneurship, enterprise growth, and job creation at scale.
GYF indicated that a well-designed National Youth Development Fund could serve as a catalytic instrument to unlock the productivity and innovation potential of Ghana’s youthful population, while also aligning with national and continental priorities on youth development, entrepreneurship, and economic transformation.
The Federation, however, urged Hon. Kuyon and his colleagues on the Youth Committee of Parliament to champion complementary reforms to strengthen the youth development ecosystem. These include the restoration of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) youth quotas, specifically the 5% allocation to the National Youth Authority (NYA) and the 10% allocation to the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
GYF further called for parliamentary support for the conversion of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) into a Youth Entrepreneurship Support Agency (YESA), noting that discussions on the reform are already underway and that the proposed National Youth Development Fund could be strategically anchored within the agency.
The Federation reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with Parliament, government institutions, development partners, and the private sector to advance policies that empower young people to build enterprises, create jobs, and drive Ghana’s long-term economic transformation.
