AMA Opens Recruitment Drive for Youth in Accra
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has opened a recruitment drive targeting unemployed young people as it seeks to strengthen its operations across the capital.
The recruitment is focused particularly on young people in Bukom, Odododiodio and surrounding communities, and forms part of the Assembly’s broader “Reset Accra” agenda, which combines employment creation with efforts to improve sanitation, local governance and enforcement of municipal by-laws.
Roles available
According to the AMA, it needs additional personnel for a number of roles, including:
- Revenue collectors for day and night operations
- Public health town council officers
- Toll collectors
- Cleaners
- City guards
The Assembly says its existing workforce is not large enough to adequately cover the metropolis, creating the need for additional personnel.
Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey announced the recruitment drive during an engagement with residents and young people in Bukom on September 14.
He said strengthening the workforce would help the Assembly improve cleanliness, order and enforcement within communities while also rebuilding a stronger town council system.
A focus on young people
The recruitment drive is being presented as part of the AMA’s efforts to create employment opportunities while involving residents in the development of their communities.
The Mayor appealed specifically to unemployed young people in Bukom, Odododiodio and neighbouring communities to take advantage of the opportunities and work with the Assembly towards creating a cleaner and safer Accra.
The AMA says the initiative is also intended to strengthen its ability to carry out revenue mobilisation, sanitation activities and enforcement of municipal regulations across the metropolis.
What young people should know
The recruitment is particularly relevant to young people seeking entry-level employment opportunities within the public sector and local government.
However, the public announcement does not currently provide details such as a closing date, salary, application requirements or a dedicated online application portal. Young people interested in the recruitment should therefore seek confirmation directly from the AMA before submitting personal documents or making any payments.
The AMA’s official website currently lists the recruitment announcement among its latest updates.
For Youth Hub readers, this is an important reminder to verify recruitment information through official channels and to be cautious of individuals requesting money in exchange for supposed employment opportunities.
