YEA Announces EV Delivery Brigade to Create Over 10,000 Jobs for Young Ghanaians
The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has announced plans to establish an Electric Vehicle (EV) Delivery Brigade, an initiative expected to create more than 10,000 employment opportunities for young Ghanaians.
The programme will introduce a structured, regulated and uniformed delivery service across all 16 regions of Ghana, with more than 10,000 electric motorcycles expected to be deployed to trained beneficiaries.
According to the YEA, the initiative is designed to connect youth employment with Ghana’s emerging electric mobility sector, providing young people with opportunities to earn a living while gaining experience in a growing area of technology.
More than just delivery jobs
Beyond the deployment of electric motorcycles, the programme is expected to create an ecosystem of supporting opportunities.
The YEA plans to establish EV battery charging and swapping stations across the country to support the delivery network. Young people will also receive specialised training in electric vehicle repair, maintenance and assembly, giving participants technical skills that extend beyond delivery services.
This means the initiative could open opportunities not only for delivery riders, but also for young people interested in technical and maintenance roles within the electric vehicle ecosystem.
Nationwide youth employment initiative
The proposed brigade is expected to operate nationwide, with beneficiaries working within a common and regulated delivery structure.
The YEA has not yet announced a specific timeline for recruitment, training or the deployment of the electric motorcycles. Details regarding the locations of charging and battery-swapping stations are also expected to become clearer as implementation progresses.
