Eastern Region Launches Ghana Youth Federation to Strengthen Youth Representation
The Eastern Region has become the first region in Ghana to officially launch a regional chapter of the Ghana Youth Federation (GYF), marking a significant step towards strengthening youth representation, collaboration, and leadership at the regional level.
The launch, held at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council in Koforidua, brought together approximately 100 participants, including representatives of youth groups, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and organisations representing persons with disabilities. The event served as a platform to introduce the Federation’s regional structure and rally stakeholders behind a shared vision for youth development.
A Milestone for Youth Representation
Addressing participants, Sherif Ghali, President of the Ghana Youth Federation, outlined the Federation’s vision of creating a unified platform that amplifies the voices of young people and promotes meaningful youth participation in national development.
He explained the Federation’s objectives, organisational structure, and leadership framework, while highlighting the significance of the Eastern Region becoming the first to establish a regional chapter.
Mr. Ghali encouraged the newly unveiled regional executives to lead with commitment, integrity, and purpose, urging them to work diligently to improve opportunities for young people across the region.
A Call to Lead Today
The event featured goodwill messages from National Youth Authority (NYA) Eastern Regional Director, Evelyn Enyonam Lotsu, and a representative of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey.
A common message echoed throughout the programme was the need for young people to embrace leadership today rather than waiting for tomorrow.
Speakers challenged participants to become active contributors to national development by supporting initiatives that empower young people, strengthen communities, and create lasting change. They emphasised that today’s youth are not simply the leaders of the future but are already playing a vital role in shaping Ghana’s development.
Regional Executives Unveiled
A key highlight of the launch was the unveiling of the Eastern Regional executives of the Ghana Youth Federation, who will lead the Federation’s activities within the region.
Participants also received an overview of the Federation’s governance structure, including its leadership arrangements and eligibility requirements for individuals seeking elected positions within the organisation.
