Applications Open for the Women’s Fellowship on Human Mobility and Climate Change (HMCCC)

Young women in Ghana and across the ECOWAS region are invited to apply for the Women’s Fellowship on Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC), a six-month leadership and capacity-building programme designed to equip emerging leaders with the knowledge and skills to address climate-induced migration and displacement.

The fellowship is implemented by the Women Environmental Programme (WEP) under the GIZ-led Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change (HMCCC) Programme. It is funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fΓΌr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, co-financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), and commissioned by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

About the Fellowship

The six-month programme, which runs from July to December 2026, combines virtual learning, in-person training, mentorship, and practical project implementation.

Selected fellows will receive training on:

  • Climate mobility in West Africa
  • Gender and climate change policy
  • Leadership and advocacy
  • Community impact and resilience building

The fellowship will be delivered in both English and French, with interpretation and translated learning materials provided.

What Fellows Will Receive

Successful applicants will benefit from:

  • Fully funded leadership and capacity-building training
  • One-on-one mentorship from experienced professionals
  • The opportunity to implement a community-based climate project
  • A pilot project grant of USD 500–1,000
  • Access to regional and international climate, migration, and gender policy events
  • Membership in a regional Community of Practice and Alumni Network upon completion of the programme

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be a young woman aged 18–35 years
  • Be a citizen of an ECOWAS Member State, including Ghana
  • Have demonstrated leadership or experience in climate action, migration, gender equality, environmental sustainability, youth engagement, research, or community development
  • Have a project idea or ongoing initiative related to climate-induced human mobility
  • Be committed to driving positive community impact and participating fully in the fellowship activities

Required Application Documents

Applicants are required to submit:

  • A one-page motivation letter
  • A CV (maximum two pages)
  • A project proposal (maximum three pages) outlining an initiative they intend to develop during the fellowship
